All this around...

... and I continue to lead a self-centered, selfish life.

Dear Restless,

Very poignant images these. I agree with the fact that children should not work. But like always, there are 2 sides to this coin too. What happens if the family in which he is born into is so poor that he has to work so that he can eat? What happens when there is nobody else in his life but him i.e. he is an orphan? How will he live? Would you prefer that he beg than to work? I do not think that to stop kids from working is the right way to go. Yes, if any kid is forced to work then most definitely it has to stop. Other than that, if he is working, then make a clause or law or something that those who employ him have to also ensure that he gets education. The fact that people employ kids are because they offer cheap labour. So, make them responsible for their education. Thus, if there is a law that for a child to work, the employer has to ensure his education, only then is there a route for the child to get above his prevalent conditions. Otherwise, he would remain mostly poor his entire life unless he is very enterprising or resorts to crime. What do you think?

I agree with you. The difference between us and them is that we got the right opportunities. I believe the key to the solution is to provide them opportunities to learn and grow.

Why will the employer provide education in a capitalist economy?

Its a responsibility of a government and not of a businessman?

I feel so help less when I see some child begging or doing work. I saw a boy who was selling a toy at that age he should be playing with that toy...

Sir ji, this post was something more than heart-melting. Want to share something here-

"kuchh bachche achchhe hote hain, bahut achchhe hote hain, woh video games nahin maangte, khilaune bhi nahin maangte.

zidd bhi nahin karte, aur machalte toh bilkul bhi nahin hain.

bado'n ka kehna maante hain, aur itne achchhe hote hain ki chhoto'n ka kehna bhi maan lete hain.

itne achchhe bachchon ki talaash mein rehte hain woh.

aur milte hi unhe le jaate hain woh,
aksar 100 rupaye mahine aur do waqt ke khaane ke aevaz mein....

unki yehi majboori shaayad unhe achchha banaati hogi...??"
